Founded in 1920 by Deonilde Freitas and later led by Germana and Ermelinda Freitas, the company has a deep passion for wine. Leonor Freitas expanded the original 148 acres of Castelão and Fernão Pires in Palmela to include a broader range of varieties. Today, Ermelinda Freitas manages 1087 acres: 60% Castelão, 30% reds like Touriga Nacional and Syrah, and 10% whites such as Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. This region is renowned for producing some of its finest wines.
A ruby-colored wine that is concentrated, rich in good-quality tannins and very complex. With aromas reminiscent of mature red fruit, it is matched by the wood which gives it some elegance. A persistent, longlasting finish.
