Very old vines grow on deep loess soils at the family wine estate Wimmer-Czerny in the community of Fels am Wagram. Two-thirds Grüner Veltliner is complemented with Riesling and their traditional specialty Roter Veltliner, along with Weissburgunder and Traminer as well as red varieties Sankt Laurent, Zweigelt and Pinot Noir. Their most distinctive vineyards sites are in Fumberg, Weelfel and Scheiben. Not only the fifteen hectares of vineyard are farmed biodynamically—certified by DEMETER, organic for 15 years—but the entire estate, its fields and livestock as well. Key words to DEMETER’s wine philosophy: diverse green cover, the estate’s own compost, biodynamic preparations and plant teas as well as attention to natural rhythms. No irrigation; hand harvesting, fermentation with indigenous yeasts, no additives, and natural sedimentation rather than filtering.
Hans Czerny has enjoyed the esteem of winelovers and journalists for 27 years, thanks to his undisturbed and pristine style.
